The following picture shows an immaculate forward defensive stroke from Norman Threapleton. The match is Guiseley v. Otley in the very early years of the Senior League, possibly 1938, just after the breakaway from the Yorkshire Council. The match is played at the Guiseley ground at Nethermoor Park.

This time, Norman just makes his ground. Whether or not it was the last ball of the over will forever remain a mystery. The Otley keeper is Tommy Cooper.
