On Sunday afternoon 6th September 2015 which was warm and sunny the League team travelled to play the Bradford Evening League in the final of the West Yorkshire Area Cricket Council Cup at the picturesque and immaculate manicured field of Booth Cricket Club of the Halifax Cricket League.

The Evening League won the toss and elected to bat on a warm and sunny day on what looked a seeming wicket.   It didn’t take long for the Aire-Wharfe team to have returned 3 batsmen to the pavilion as the Evening League struggled to 11 for 3 in the 11th over, a stand of 55 by Scott Etherington (21) and Charlie Davy (28) saw the fourth wicket to fall in the 23rd over for 66.   It was then a steady procession until the Evening League put on a score of 123 all out in the 38th of a 40 over match, the bowling always on top.

James Davies 8 overs – 1 for 16, who was going at 1 an over until his last and eighth over.

Robert Spivey 8 overs – 2 for 13.                      Ben Morley 3 overs for 16 runs

Bradley Reeve 5 overs – 1 for 14                      Nicky Bulcock 8 overs 3 – 27

Harry Smallwood 5.2 overs  3 – 27

After being hosted and entertained to tea by Booth Cricket Club, Josh Atkinson and Ben Morley set about the task of overhauling the Evening League total and seemed in little trouble as they progressed at 6 an over in the first ten, there followed 15 in the eleventh over, 16 in the twelfth, 12 in the thirteenth and 10 in the fourteenth over to win the match.

Josh faced 42 balls, hit 8 fours and 1 six to score 53 not out.

Ben faced 41 balls hitting 11 fours and 3 sixes to score 70 not out.

A good 10 wicket win in this final to regain the Cup, congratulations to all the team including team managers Chris Smith and Tony Crowther.

A&WSCL team: Josh Atkinson, Ed Brown, Nicky Bulcock, James Davies, Ollie Hardaker, Ben Morley, George Myers, Bradley Reeve, Harry Smallwood, Robert Spivey, Bailey Worcester.

28th April: Death of Gordon Wood (Umpire)

I (John Wood) have just learned of the death of my Uncle Gordon Wood aged 84. He was a playing member of Pool and lived in the village all his life up to about 4 years ago.  He was an Aire Wharfe umpire in the late 70’s and 80’s and returned to umpire in the League in 2000 for about another 10 years. He had to stop umpiring due to his failing health and moved to Cheadle near Stockport to be near his daughter. Lots of the older umpires still ask me about him so perhaps if you could mention his passing that would be very kind.

The thoughts and prayers of the League are with his family and friends at this very sad time
