Week 9 Preview

With thundery skies around over the weekend any sides able to get a game in may be able to steal a march on the sides that cannot with big ties at either end of the table this week. Runaway leaders Beckwithshaw look to further their advantage over their rivals with a home match against languishing Follifoot who have suffered almost opposite fortunes this season as first place plays last. Burley and Collingham are amongst those desperate to close the gap and take advantage of any Beckwithshaw slip up. Collingham are facing eighth place Steeton whereas Burley will play Guiseley. With five points separating second and sixth places in Division One all sides will be keen to get a fixture in even if it is a reduced overs contest. Two of the teams separated by a point are Bilton and Otley who are one win away from second place in the league play each other in Harrogate this week. Elsewhere Kirkstall play Pool and Ben Rhydding face Harden.

In division two there is no let up with big games at the top and the bottom of the table this week as Thackley look to build on their recent form travelling to North Leeds with both sides trying to catch Knaresborough who lost to Thackley last week.  At the other end of the table Calverley with only 5 points to their name this season travel to Ilkley and Colton face a very tough home game against the leaders Knaresborough who will be desperate to get back on track after their demoralising loss to Thackley last week. Tong Park Esholt play host to Adel who are also pushing for promotion whilst Green Lane host Bolton Villas. The final game from this round of matches will feature Bardsey taking on a Rawdon side that only lost one wicket chasing a modest target of 89 last time out.

In division three after matching 4 point wins last week Skipton and Horsforth find themselves at the top of the table vying for promotion with Skipton travelling to inconsistent but powerful New Rover and Horsforth travelling to fourth placed Addingham who will be keen to better their 60 all out last week. The inflictors of that bashing defeat of Addingham last week were Upper Wharfedale who travel to Illingworth this week who calmly dismissed Alwoodley’s total of 154. Alwoodley play Woodhouse this week with four wins between them this season. The final two ties this week see Hall Park travel to Menston and Silsden host Olicanians. All four sides will be very keen to put distance between themselves and the relection spots at the bottom of the table.

Having only dropped eight points this season Otley look odds on to be there or thereabouts this season with Ilkley, themselves having only one point behind them, their likely rivals for the title. Both sides face teams in the bottom half of Division One in Bilton and Harden respectively.  North Leeds will want to join the two aforementioned sides at the top of the table with a win over Steeton who are only a point behind them. The final two matches this week are Rawdon vs Beckwithshaw and Olicanians face Guiseley.

In division two there is a fascinating title showdown in place between three or four sides as Burley, Kirkstall and the two newly promoted sides Horsforth and New Rover have had excellent starts to the season. Burley will renew old rivalries with Green Lane, both sides were of course relegated from Division One last year. Kirkstall travel to the inconsistent Pool and Horsforth play Ben Rhydding. New Rover will want to get back on the point winning horse this week with an away match to Knaresborough after their defeat last week to Green Lane. The final two fixtures feature four of the sides in the lower half of the table with Follifoot hosting Woodhouse and Thackley hosting Collingham.

In division three Colton and Calverley have been experiencing very different emotions to their 1XI as they have only dropped five points apiece when they had matches abandoned during matchday 5. That result aside both have won every fixture played and the two looked destined to be intertwined until 3rd August when in matchday 16 they play each other. Back to the present though and both sides will have sides well out of form to face this weekend with Colton travelling to Skipton and Calverley hosting Addingham. Addingham have only managed to gain one point so far this season in a start to forget. Third and fourth placed sides will also play each other with Hall Park wanting to leapfrog their visitors Menston this weekend. The other fixtures this week will see Alwoodley host Bardsey, Upper Wharfedale play Illingworth and Silsden travel to Bolton Villas.

There is a full set of fixtures due to be played on Sunday with in Conference A Adel playing North Leeds, Follifoot playing Bilton, Green Lane hosting Horsforth and Rawdon playing Knaresborough. Conference B will see Guiseley take on Thackley, Ilkley playing Steeton, Olicanians hosting Burley and finally Otley playing Ben Rhydding. There are big games this week with 2nd vs 3rd in both conferences amongst the highlights of the ninth round of matches.
