Week 2 Preview

Week 2 in the AWSCL sees some intriguing ties in Division 1. Beckwithshaw host Otley in what may be considered as the pick of the games. ‘Shaw amassed 252-4 last weekend and will be hoping Inglis and Farag can continue their opening day form against an Otley attack that decimated Kirkstall Last week. Otley themselves possess match-winners in Davies, Atkinson and Rhodes along with overseas James Wilcock.

Guiseley will look to build on their annihilation of Harden with victory at home to Steeton, who were the benefactors for Beckwithshaw’s week 1 success. Guiseleys Tallan Wright can contribute with both bat and ball, while John Akrigg and Neil Spragg may hold the key to Steeton’s batting line up.

Harden will be looking to bounce back from their opening day suffering at the hands of Guiseley when they travel to Burley. They will be aided by the arrival of their overseas player Roshan Livera, whilst Burley, who were defeated by Pool on day 1, will look to 2012 batting average runner-up Nick Brook for their runs.

Pool also recorded a win on the opening day and travel to Follifoot who were bowled out for a disappointing 71. Champions Collingham travel to Kirkstall while Waddilove Cup 2012 finalists Ben Rhydding host Bilton.

Big winners in division 2 on opening day were Rawdon, who host Adel this weekend. Led by Andrew Doidge, Rawdon will be hoping that their stint in division 2 last no longer than this season, but will face tough resistance on Saturday against an Adel team looking to bounce back after relegation in 2012.

Colton started life back in divison 2 in wretched fashion at the hands of Rawdon, and won’t find it much easier when they travel to Ilkley. Nick Cockroft’s team lost only 5 wickets when chasing North Leeds’ 164 last week and must be considered contenders in the highly competitive division.

After dismissing Bardsey for 65 last week the Thackley bowling attack will relish coming up against Green Lane, who lost 7 wickets chasing down 121 at Calverley on day 1. Nasser Jamal leads the Thackley attack with confidence at a high after 6 Bardsey wickets at Ainsbury avenue.

Bardsey will be looking to bounce back from that defeat when they host Knaresborough, who took 2 points of Tong Park Esholt at the weekend. Esholt host North Leeds and Bolton Villas host Calverley in the remaining fixtures in division 2.

After a shock defeat at home to Silsden on the opening day Horsforth will be chomping at the bit ahead of their visit to Olicanian at the weekend. The star studded line up will face a tough task however, after Olicanian recorded a 134 run victory over Upper Wharfedale in the battle of 2012’s relegated teams.

New Rover, the highest scorers of the weekend, travel to Addingham, who recorded victory over Menston last week in a match that wasn’t so run-packed. Dinsdale, Mir and Richmond spearhead the New Rover batting line up that amassed 303-5 last week.

Skipton travel to Woodhouse in a match between teams that both picked up 6 points in the previous week, while Alwoodley host Upper Wharfedale. Illingworth versus Menston and Silsden versus Hall Park complete the fixtures for week 2.

In the second teams, Steeton host Guiseley in the reverse of the first team match on week 2. Guiseley brushed aside Harden last week and Steeton took 4 points away at Beckwithshaw. Harden themselves host Olicanian, in a game in which both sets of batters will look to improve after being dismissed for double figure totals last week. Otley host Beckwithshaw and North Leeds host Tong Park Esholt, while Adel have a tough task at home to a tough Rawdon outfit.

In division 2 Horsforth host Burley, a game both teams head into on 6 points after wins on the opening day. Burley completed a demolition of Pool and Horsforth got over the line against Green lane to set up an intriguing affair this week. Collingham host a confident Kirkstall team, while Woodhouse pay a visit to Knaresborough. Pool will look to bounce back against Follifoot and Thackley host Green Lane.

Division 3 fixtures comprise of Calverley at home to Bolton Villas and Menston at home to Illingworth. Bardsay make the long journey to Skipton, while Upper Wharfedale host Alwoodley. Hall park versus Silsden and Colton play Addingham in the remaining fixtures in division 3.
